The League of South American Free States was a coalition that rose to prominence after a failed coup in 2010 by pro-US, CIA-backed Venezuelan military officers failed.

After the involvement of the US was revealed, the US attempted to enact trade embargoes to topple the regime, but failed as the South American countries were all very much stable enough by working together to remain autonomous, due largely to Brazillian agriculture and Venezuelan oil.
